Snowboarding is ever-changing, and there's a lot of factors to thank for that. One in particular is representation. Different types of snowboarders have been entering—and staying in—the space, and that level of participation translates to a type of representation, inclusion, and community that we’re proud to back.
At the core of this change is Mikaela Kautzky and Abby Furrer, the two behind Life is Plastic. They’ve been facilitating this shift for a few years now (definitely revisit From the Bottom of One’s Heart or Seen at Ojo Fest), and although they’re only one piece to a bigger, more complex puzzle, their work moves the needle.
Their latest project is yet another symbol of hope in the world of inclusion. Barbie filmed it, some of our favorite riders starred in it, and we’re happily reminded that snowboarding is for everyone.
A Note from Mikaela and Abby:
We want to acknowledge that while this video may present a better representation of what snowboarding could and should look like, we recognize that one project is not enough. Including white femmes and white queer folks is a step, but it is not the end. We hope that snowboarding continues to strive for better representation and inclusivity.
