It's hard to focus on snowboarding when rocks are already exposed on our favorite glacier. A slew of other 90°-oriented activities further that notion, so we decided to throw it back to a mid-winter spot with Gian Sutter. You may not care about dropping into a street spot right now, but when you see their footage this Fall, you'll be itching to repurpose some wood pallets too.
Torment Weather Report: Weather patterns in the Pacific Ocean are anything but normal right now. On top of the inexorable rise in global temperature caused by greenhouse gas emissions is an emerging El Niño, adding an imminent double whammy effect to global heating.
"The last major El Niño from 2014 to 2016 led to each of those years successively breaking the global temperature record and 2016 remains the hottest year ever recorded."
At the root of these abnormal conditions are trade winds and a process called upwelling, both of which may not resonate. The above video does a good job at simplifying the complexities of warm water being pushed back east.
"El Niño means Little Boy in Spanish. South American fishermen first noticed periods of unusually warm water in the Pacific Ocean in the 1600s. The full name they used was El Niño de Navidad, because El Niño typically peaks around December."
Odds are low that you've dined in LA's hidden gem, Little Ethopia. Odds are even slimmer that you ran into Nyjah Huston dinning there the other night. Whoever joined him has great taste.
The OG Torment Hoodie will be back on the shop soon enough.
Raw iPhone clips made it onto Moron Wax's YouTube channel in the form of Sam Bakken's season edit. 9 minutes of phone footage that span Trollhaugen laps, Boreal jumps, and too many powder days to count.
Sam's clips in Moron's first team movie are worth a rewatch, too.
"What is a company’s responsibility to an athlete who constantly puts their body on the line? And what do they owe their athlete who gets hurt on the job? While most extreme athletes grudgingly accept that it’s on them to protect themselves, this question is only getting louder." NY Mag's recent article taps into the GoFundMe dilemma that's been lurking under the surface for years now.
The crowdfunding platform allows people to raise money for events, but what we didn't expect was for athletes to (inadvertently) depend on it when health insurance isn't part of the equation. Travis Rice, Circe Wallace, and others offer their insight on the conversation.
"I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to look back on my career and share my decades-long journey and personal archival footage with discovery+ audiences around the globe. I cannot wait for viewers to experience my path to the 2022 Olympics right along with me." We should've known something was in the works when we caught wind of a documentary crew following him around Beijing last winter.
A year and some change later, and we're one step closer to the three-part docuseries that will highlight the 36 year old's meteoric rise to fame—in both the snow and skate worlds. There's a reason he was a millionaire at 15.
There's a proposed limestone mining operation on Parley's Canyon that could have devastating effects on Utah's entire Wasatch Front. Aside from the understandable pollution (noise, light, dust & diesel fumes) this would pose, there is a protected watershed in the Canyon that serves water to over 50% of SLC residents.
Should this proposal get approved, the entirety of the 634-acre parcel will be disrupted. One the many petitions to protect Parley's Canyon can be signed here.
