Just out here spreading love, one roast at a time.
Torment Weather Report: The East Coast, the Midwest, and Europe are off to a great start to the snow season, while the Mountain West and PNW struggle through dry spells and torrential rains, respectively. It’s nuking in Japan, btw. This is all set against the backdrop of the planet’s third warmest November on record, despite not being a generally planet-warming El Niño year, sigh.
“They (NOAA) expect the average global temperature for 2023–2025 to exceed the much-watched value of 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. This would be the first three-year average to do so in the instrumental period.”
We are smack dab in the midst of a continuing content deluge. There’s so much to choose from that we’re having decision paralysis, for fear of leaving anyone out or missing something essential. So, for the record, we love all of you “content-creators," culture-contributors, powder-boarders, street-heads, slednecks, Euro-doods, and Japanese homies. Thanks for keeping us entertained this fall.
That disclaimer out of the way, thank you specifically to Bode Merrill for your endless dedication, creativity, and passion for our little corner of the world. When Doves Cry, Bode’s 2-year project is live, and we recommend a big screen with the volume up. Get ready to rewind about a hundred times in an (likely futile) attempt at unraveling the intricacies of the many novel maneuvers on display:
The K2 Europe team got busy last year, and their offering Thermal is a testament to their versatility on the sticks. Mathis Bozzolo, who vaguely resembles Lord Farquaad, guides the crew around Japan, powder is boarded there and in Europe, rails are crushed, and rocks are hopped. A couple of Moritz’s’s’s bring it home.
10 years ago, if a time traveler from the future told us we’d be watching a Maxwell Carl Scott street part called Footbath, where he wears a bird hat with tassels, released by a company called “Flower,” set to the sounds of Our Lady Peace, we’d probably have dismissed them as someone suffering from a psychotic break. That being said, pretty enjoyable watch, all things considered.
There’s ALSO, Rome’s Roadside Attraction, Beyond Medals’ Cease and Desist, and The North Face’s The Sound of Japan. This last one maaay be enhanced by headphones and a responsibly portioned substance of your choice…
In other media news, our fellow purveyors of print over at The Snowboarder’s Journal have released issue 23.3, featuring the most heart-warming cover of the year. Shot by Mike Yoshida (also part of “covergate” 2025), this shot really captures the pure joy of sliding on snow. Great job fellas.
Lucas Beaufort of “The Common Line” would likely agree on that last point. After it’s stop in Whistler, the event series made its way to Tactics in Seattle with four(!) panels of esteemed industry vets, company-owners, media-creators, and pro-riders, all diving into various discussions with guest moderator, the legendary wordsmith himself, Pat “The Eye” Bridges.
The Common Line is, “An art and ride journey to bring snowboarding back to its roots.” Group discussions, days on hill, and auctions to support the brick and mortar shops (and charities like Skateistan in the case of the bigger/chain shops) who play host to the event are happening at 9 spots across the globe. It’s an ambitious series, and its’ goals are admittedly a bit amorphous and open-ended. Hopefully some measurable movement in the direction of accessibility/inclusion comes out of this, or maybe the point is just to get the convo started, with specific goals getting in the way of possibility? Open to any and all of the above.
Finally, in people making really dope/weird shit news; Peter Sutherland, frequent board-world collaborator, dropped this insane mixed media collage straight to the gram, Pseudo Corp is selling a Chief Keef themed snowboard, and Snowboarder Mag is back in print?
