Have posted this one before, but worth noting: one person’s discard is another’s discovery.
Torment Weather Report: The first resort to officially open in North America was Keystone resort in Colorado. They pulled a fast one on nearby Arapahoe basin by pulling a surprise opening on the afternoon of October 25th. A-Basin was slated to (and did) open the following day. Judging from the comments, this is some sort of payback for a similar stunt A-Basin carried out a few years back? We’re not up on Coloradan intra-resort tongue-in-cheek internet beefs, but we’re happy to see the winter season officially underway.
It’s a sort of calm before the storm vibe across the boardspace as premieres are touring around, a few “full-lengths” are dropping, and mags get their first issues off the press. Speaking of, we are under two weeks out from Torment’s Issue 8 Release Party. Pull up if you dare.
Rome’s new movie “Swarm” is up on the site, and a stacked roster of East Coast killers put a hurting on all kinds of cutty spots. The ever-reliable Melter crew just dropped number 5 from the Finnish streets. A combination of mind-boggling and tasteful maneuvers makes for a hype-inducing watch. Though some of the kits had us wondering what year it was.
Also, this is hosted on the Helsingin lumilautailijat Youtube channel. Try to pronounce that one… We think it translates to Helsinki Snowboarders Association? Do they get government funding for these?!
There’s a new brick and mortar shop in North Bend, WA called Knoll 5. This is a part of Karakoram’s new headquarter’s/production facility. Knoll 5 focuses on high-end and interesting snowboard shapes (Gentem, Korua, United Shapes, etc.) and of course Karakoram’s ever-expanding binding offerings. They offer retail, tuning, and demos, and if you ask nicely (and fill out a waiver), they might let you skate their extremely fun looking mini ramp.
Everyone’s favorite Québécois boarder Louif has a wide ranging interview up on Wasted Talent’s website. He talks about Japanese dam spots, having bad knees, being a father, and where he’d like to see snowboarding go in the future. A good read.
Finally, the Baker Boys have been busy, putting out two “homie” vids with footage that pushes the envelope of what it means to be a hobbyist boarder. Featuring footage from AK and in and out of bounds at Baker.
As usual, stay balanced friends:
