If this is the wireless era, why are utility poles more tormented than ever? We don't know, but it is another week, so let's get into it.
Torment Weather Report: Japan's highest volcano, Mt. Fuji, is yet to see snowfall this year. Most are chalking it up to climate change, but one things for certain—this the latest date in its recorded history that the slopes have been bare. The old record was on October 26th (seen twice, in 1955 and then in 2016), but it looks like the new record will go into September.
"The volcano's snowcap begins forming on October 2 on average, and last year snow was first detected there on October 5."
Colorado ski season has officially started with the opening of Wolf Creek. This news from Pagosa Springs means the first resort (in the world?) has opened in North America, and they were able to do so after 26" fell in the last couple weeks. The mountain will have roughly 30% of its terrain open.
The good news continues with word that the West Coast will be getting hit with flakes all week long. Heavy precipitation has already made its way through the PNW, but is set to land in the Intermountain West as it tracks southeast through Thursday. If you're on the East coast, Halloween might be scarily hot instead, so we recommend refreshing the Milly Express live stream to keep hopes high.
Pharrell-esq energy lately. Probably started from the Senssese fashion show we saw a week ago, but only compounded after walking the red carpeted aisles of the Apollo Theater this past weekend. We headed to the iconic theater for the first stop of the Arc'teryx Film Tour, and recapped the long night spent with Jared Elston and Sevi van der Meer yesterday.
"From the balconies, to the wall of performers, to the details found in the neoclassical design of the theater, the Apollo is iconic. I mean, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, and even Prince stood exactly where I stood with my goofy tote bag and stupid Yankees hat on. Again, I ask myself, “Why are snowboarders getting to have an event at the Apollo?” - Matt Norris, recalling his first time in the legendary theater.
If you wanted to snowboard year round, you would. CO native, Ben Longley, spoke that into existence this past summer, filming street clips with nothing but a skateboard and some determination. A few Woodward Copper clips (1,2) sprinkled in the mix, too.
Mitchy Davern and Ben Poechman just released a TNF Canada project titled HALATION, taking us across British Columbia, Colorado, and Utah. Looks like it already won three awards at iF3.
Gabe Ferguson's for sale. If you have $433.68 lying around, might be worth it. Along with the jacket, you wouldn't have to roll your weed anymore.
His clips in the new Screwdriver video are rumored to be pretty heavy, but you'll just have to wait until our Issue SEVEN release party to see for yourself. In the meantime...
