A hot take on Old Monarch Pass, and an even hotter take across every city in North America. 95℉ is the new norm, let's get into it.
Torment Weather Report: It's no surprise that this summer's been defined by record breaking temperatures. We're fairly confident human-charged climate change is boosting these heatwaves across the U.S., and a recent data analysis from the International Institute for Environment and Development just reinforced what we already knew: it's unbearably hot. Here are the top 10 cities with the biggest rise in days 95°F or hotter this summer.
"If you take the country’s 50-biggest cities and add up the number of days above 95 degrees, there have been at least 1,071 this summer — 161 more than the average over the past decade for the same period."
Issue SEVEN is going to print, and if we were to say that half a century ago, this is what the process would've looked like. Read a few from the digital archive, subscribe to it all, and get prepared for something new.
A few other How It's Made videos that raised eyebrows in the Torment office: winter jackets, pre-inked stamps, and printed packaging.
Scott Stevens talked with the Snowboarder's Journal for Issue 20.4 about his relationship with snowboarding, and how he's kept it fun over the years. A great personality piece on one of the most creative to ever do it.
"Nobody knows me for this and there’s hardly any footage of it, but when I was younger, I used to hurt myself a lot,” Scott Stevens says. “I would chuck. I broke my back in front of Ross Powers in the Stratton [VT] terrain park when he was at his height. Honestly, I wanted to be a pro so bad that I didn’t care how badly I hurt myself. I had more brawn than brain at the time. But when my snowboarding changed to be a little bit more fun, that was good for my body and my mind."
🚨 New podcast alert 🚨 Nemo Design's Trevor Graves and Jen Sherowski have joined forces for Co-Pro, a (hopefully) weekly chat with some of snowboarding's best. The second episode is a deep dive with Tom Monterosso, a seasoned photographer, writer, and announcer.
"The conversation dives into the pros and cons of being a generalist versus a specialist in the creative world, the exciting developments of the Natural Selection Tour, a premier snowboarding event, and Tom's experiences and contributions to Ride Snowboarding."
Blake Paul and Spencer Schubert have been chasing winter in Chile for the past week(s), and rumor has it they got trapped down south due to overbooked flights back to the U.S. Screengrab from Mack Dawg Productions' Follow Me Around (2006), but applies to their current situation. Makes us think back to this Chiken Meat edit from nine years ago...
Looks like they're not too bummed on the extended stay. Update: "Booked last minute, two big storms, trip MVP Sebastían Goñi, visited A-Rob's spot and rode his last turns. This place and the people will always be special to me 🇨🇱"
