Ryo’s style and power on the board is unmatched and uniquely his own. From his kit choice to spot selection, you can tell he puts a lot of thought and energy towards his riding. Dillon Ojo - Vans' Landline. (2018)
It’s almost impossible to choose just five video parts that have influenced my snowboarding, but the first one that always comes to mind is LANDLINE. When it came out, I wasn’t filming video parts yet. But the first time I watched it, it completely blew me away. To me, it’s been a snowboard textbook and a film that changed my life. Dillon Ojo’s part gave me chills. I still remember everything about it—his riding, the spots, the tricks, the outfits, even the music. I never had the chance to meet him, but he’ll always live on in my heart.
自分のスノーボードに影響を与えたビデオパートを5つだけ選ぶのは不可能ですが、真っ先に思い浮かぶのは間違いなく『LANDLINE』です。 この映像が出た当時、私はまだビデオパートを撮影していませんでした。でも初めて見たときは本当に衝撃を受けました。私にとってはスノーボードの教科書であり、人生を変えた作品だと思っています。 Dillon Ojoのパートは震えましたね。滑り、スポット、トリック、服装、音楽まで、今でも全部覚えているくらいです。実際に彼に会うことはできませんでしたが、彼は私の中でこれからもずっと生き続けています。
Keegan Valaika - Absinthe Films' Primus (2021)
Pure art. It’s one of the films that completely changed the way I see snowboarding. The riding, the spots, the tricks, the filming, the music, the outfits—everything is perfect. In less than four minutes, it captures everything that makes snowboarding so special and beautiful. Back then in Japan, it felt like everyone had to fit into a category. Street riders filmed rails, backcountry riders filmed powder, and people were labeled as “jibbers” or “streeters.” But this video completely broke that mindset for me. It made me realize that this is what real snowboarding is.
まさに芸術。私の価値観を変えた作品の一つです。 滑り、スポット、トリック、撮り方、音楽、服装。完璧。 この4分にも満たない映像の中に、スノーボードの魅力やカッコ良さがすべて詰まっています。 当時の日本では、ストリートをやる人はレールだけ、バックカントリーをやる人はパウダーだけを滑って撮影し「ジバー」や「ストリーター」といった言葉で区別されているように感じていました。 でも、この映像はそんな価値観を壊しました。これが本当のスノーボードなんだと痛感しました。
Keegan Valaika - Brown Cinema's Double Bass (2020)
It’s truly an all-star film. Brown’s videos are always inspiring. They feel raw and authentic, and they show not only the riding, but also the riders’ lifestyles and the way they live. The riders and filmmakers are all incredibly cool, and the whole film is full of amazing style and creativity. I also love Brown’s approach of keeping shoveling to a minimum and focusing on the riding. Rather than feeling like a brand promo, it feels like a snowboard film they genuinely wanted to make, and that’s what makes it so cool. Over the past two or three years, I’ve had the chance to learn “Brown Style” directly from Scott and Brock, and it continues to have a huge influence on my snowboarding today.
まさにオールスターな作品です。 Brownの映像はいつも刺激的で、リアルというか、生っぽさがあります。ライディングだけじゃなく、生き方やライフスタイルまで伝わってくるところが好きです。 出演しているライダーもカメラマンもみんなカッコよくて、センスの爆発映像です。 雪かきは最小限でライディングをたくさん見せるというブラウンらしいスタイルも好きですし、ブランドのプロモーションというより、彼らが本当に作りたかったスノーボード作品という感じがしてすごくカッコいいです。 ここ2〜3年でScottやBrockから直接教えてもらった”Brown Style”は、今でも自分のスノーボーディングに大きな影響を与えています
Tommy Gesme - Adidas' blender (2018)
I think this is the ultimate street snowboarding video. Even though it was released six years ago, it still feels timeless and looks just as amazing today. It’s not just about having amazing rail skills. The riding, the spot choice, and the editing—all the details and passion behind every single shot really come through. You can’t fully take everything in from just one viewing. The more you watch it, the more you discover, and the more impressive and inspiring it becomes.
私はこれがストリートスノーボードビデオの最高到達点だと思います。 6年前に公開された作品とは思えないほど、今見ても色褪せず、同じように本当にカッコいいです。 ただレールの技術がすごいだけではありません。滑り、スポット選び、編集、そのすべてにおいて、一つひとつのカットから細部へのこだわりや情熱が伝わってきます。 一度見ただけではすべてを受け取ることはできないほどに、見れば見るほど魅力的な作品です。
Noah Salasnek - Legends of Snowboarding
Today, there are so many talented snowboarders, and we are surrounded by incredible riders and amazing videos. The level of snowboarding has progressed so much, and snowboard gear, camera equipment, information, and tools are all better than ever before. With triple corks, quad corks, and world-record-sized rails becoming part of the progression of snowboarding, why is it that this video from almost 30 years ago still looks so cool today? I honestly don’t know if I can fully explain it with words. There is just something about it that draws me in. Even after all these years, I still think it’s incredibly cool. I still haven’t found a clear answer myself. But I’m continuing to search for why this video has had such a huge influence on me and why it means so much to my snowboarding.
今はスノーボードが上手いライダーがたくさんいて、素晴らしい映像やライダーが溢れています。技術も進化し、スノーボードギア、カメラ機材、情報やツールも昔とは比べものにならないほど良くなっています。 トリプルコークやクワッドコーク、世界記録級のレールなど、技術の進化が注目される今、なぜ約30年前のこの映像が今でもカッコよく見えるのでしょうか。 理由を言葉で説明するのは難しい。でも、なぜか強く惹かれる。今見ても本当にカッコいいと思ってしまいます。 自分でもまだ明確な答えは見つかっていません。でも、このビデオがなぜ自分にとってこれほど大きな影響力を持っているのか、その答えを今でも探しています。
